Roots of Anxiety: Finding Solid Ground
Anxiety isn’t just a mood; it’s a thief. It creeps in when we stop looking at the Creator and start staring at the chaos. We get caught up in the “Martha mindset,” fussing over the details and the to-do lists while the only thing that actually matters is standing right in front of us. When our focus shifts to our circumstances, we lose our peace.
The Control Trap
We love to think we’re in the driver’s seat. We plan, we worry, and we try to muscle our way through life’s messes. But the truth is gritty: we aren’t in control. Jesus was clear that worrying doesn’t add a single hour to our lives. It just adds weight. When we try to be God, we fail every time. Real freedom only shows up when we stop white-knuckling the steering wheel and hand it over.
Fear and Forgetfulness
Fear is a shadow that grows in the dark. Whether it’s the fear of failing or the fear of what’s coming around the next bend, it feeds on our silence. We also have a bad habit of spiritual amnesia. We forget what’s already been done for us. God has a track record of being faithful, but we start acting like we’re orphans the second things get loud. Remembering His past provision is the best way to handle today’s noise.
Shifting the Source
Anxiety doesn’t define you. It’s a temporary feeling, not your identity. When the pressure builds, look at what’s feeding it. Is it a need for control? Is it a forgotten promise? Take those heavy thoughts and trade them for the peace that actually lasts. You serve a God who isn’t intimidated by your struggles and is more than capable of carrying the load you were never meant to shoulder.
