The Noise in the Quiet

The Noise in the Quiet

Anxiety isn’t just a feeling; it’s a liar. It waits for the house to get quiet, usually when you’re finishing that last cup of coffee, and starts whispering garbage into your ear. It wants you to believe you’re stranded on an island, that your situation is a dead end, and that you’re simply not tough enough to carry the load.

When you’re a veteran, you’re used to carrying a pack. But the weight anxiety tries to strap to your back isn’t gear—it’s lead. It tells you that if you can’t fix everything yourself, you’ve failed. That’s the biggest lie in the book.

Breaking the Silence

Scripture doesn’t offer fluff; it offers a foundation. When the world feels like a storm, these truths are the anchor:

  • You Aren’t Alone: Even when it feels like no one gets it, the Creator of the universe is standing right there. He promised never to leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6).
  • The Story Isn’t Over: Just because things look bleak today doesn’t mean the road ends here. God is working things for good, even when we can’t see the blueprint (Romans 8:28).
  • Strength Isn’t Your Job: We get tired. We stumble. But His strength kicks in right where ours runs out. Lean on that instead of your own depleted tank (Isaiah 40:29-31).
  • Drop the Pack: You weren’t meant to carry the weight of the world. Christ gave an open invitation to the weary: come to Him and find rest (Matthew 11:28-30).

Choosing Truth Over Noise

Every day is a choice. You can listen to the static of your own head, or you can listen to the Word. I’ll take the Word every single time. It’s the only thing that brings real peace when the noise gets loud.

Take a breath. Hug Christy. Let Zippy take up too much room on the couch. Trust that you don’t have to do it all, because the One who made you already has it handled.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6-7
