The Rhythm of Rest

Notes from my daily devotional by Duomo

The Rhythm of Rest

Society worships the hustle. We’ve been told our worth is tied to productivity—how much we can grind, how many notifications we can clear, and how many items we can cross off the spreadsheet. It’s a lie. The enemy thrives in the chaos because a distracted soul is a disconnected one.

The Sabbath isn’t a suggestion; it’s a divine gift. It’s the “still season” a tree needs to grow deep roots. Without it, you’re just a hollow trunk waiting for the next storm to knock you over.

What Sabbath Actually Is

Most people think of the Sabbath as a reward for a hard week’s work or a day to catch up on laundry and errands. It’s neither. It’s not about being lazy; it’s about being intentional.

  • It is a surrender. A declaration that God is in control, not us.
  • It is a rhythm. God rested on the seventh day to set a pace, not because He was tired.
  • It is sacred. Time set apart to delight in His creation and His presence.

If you treat it as optional or a “legalistic duty,” you’re missing the point. It’s an invitation into wholeness.

Turning Off the Noise

To find that peace, you have to kill the noise. You can’t hear the Word over the constant buzz of social media and the distractions we use to survive the work week.

Prepare in advance. Clean the house on Friday. Plan the meals. Clear the schedule so when Sunday hits, you can actually breathe. Turn off the phone. Spend time in the Word, enjoy a slow morning with coffee, and focus on what matters: Christy, Zippy, and a quiet spirit.

When we rest, we’re telling God, “I trust You to hold the world together while I stop striving.” That’s where restoration happens.

“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” — Mark 2:27
