Stepping Into the Light: No Masks Required
The world is obsessed with appearances. Everyone wants a polished facade, a clean jacket, and an answer for everything.
We hide the mess. We pretend the grit doesn’t exist. But real life doesn’t happen in the shadows, and real faith certainly doesn’t grow there.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
— 1 John 1:7
The Cost of Hiding
Walking in the dark is exhausting. You spend half your energy trying not to trip and the other half trying to convince everyone else you know where you’re going.
Living in the light isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being exposed—and being okay with it. Light reveals the cracks, the stains, and the rough edges. It stops the act.
Genuine Fellowship
Notice the order in that verse. Walking in the light comes first. Real fellowship follows.
You can’t have authentic connection with your spouse, your family, or your brothers and sisters when you’re wearing armor to hide your flaws. Christy knows my shortcomings better than anyone. Zippy doesn’t care about my credentials, just that I’m present. True community starts when the masks come off.
The Clean Slate
The light doesn’t just expose the dirt; it’s where the cleansing happens.
You don’t clean up your act before you step into the light. You step into the light so the work can actually begin. Stop trying to polish the mud in the dark. Bring it out into the open, lay it down, and let the grace of God do what it was designed to do.
Stepping out of the shadows might feel uncomfortable at first, but it’s the only place you’ll ever find true peace.
