The Bread That Actually Fills You

The Bread That Actually Fills You

Most folks spend their entire lives running on fumes.

They chase the next paycheck, the next project, or whatever shiny distraction promises to fix the hollow feeling in their gut. It’s like eating cotton candy when your body is starving for real protein. It gives you a quick spike, and thirty minutes later you’re emptier than when you started.

I’m not a fan of complicated formulas or chasing things that don’t deliver. Life is too short, and the noise of the world is too loud.

The Mid-Morning Reality Check

Take a quiet minute. Christy is reading, Zippy is stretched out on the floor sound asleep, and I’ve got a fresh cup of coffee in hand. No rush. No frantic hustle. Just stillness.

When the room goes quiet, you realize what you’re actually craving isn’t another item checked off a to-do list. It isn’t more stuff. You’re looking for something that actually sustains you when the ground under your feet starts shaking.

That’s where Jesus cuts right through the nonsense.

The Only Sustenance That Lasts

“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”
— John 6:35

Bread in the ancient world wasn’t a side dish or an afterthought. It was survival. If you didn’t have bread, you didn’t make it.

The crowd following Jesus had their bellies full of physical food from the miracle the day before, but they were already back with their hands out, asking for another free meal. They wanted a handout; He offered them life.

He didn’t say He had the bread. He said He is the bread.

Stop Dining at the Empty Table

If you’re exhausted, stop trying to fill a soul-sized hole with counterfeit scraps. The world will happily sell you a thousand empty promises, but none of them will keep you through the night.

Come to the source. Get in the Word. Find your grounding in the one thing that never spoils.

Eat the real bread. Everything else is just dust.
