Chasing Ridgeline Gold
The mountain doesn’t wait for your schedule. When the canopy decides to turn, you pack the Subaru, roll down the glass, and go.
Today was one of those days. No rigid itinerary, no crowded tourist overlooks, and no rushing the morning. Christy riding shotgun, Zippy perched in the back with his ears catching the breeze, and miles of winding asphalt cutting through the timber.

The Pace of the Season
Out here, the air has that crisp, iron bite that tells you summer is well and truly buried. The hillsides look like they caught fire overnight—deep ambers, rust reds, and sharp hits of yellow cutting through the evergreen pines.
Zippy doesn’t care much about the leaves, but he knows a good open window when he feels one. Three legs or four, he’s got better balance around these switchbacks than most folks do on two feet. Seeing him take in the scents while Christy watches the ridge tops reminds you why you step away from the grind.

Finding the Quiet Corners
We bypassed the packed overlook parking lots. The best color is always tucked away on the roads that don’t have signs pointing to them, where the gravel crunches under the tires and the woods go dead quiet when you shut off the engine.
Just the wind through dry oak leaves, the smell of damp earth, and good company. You can’t bottle that, but you can let it reset your head.

The Takeaway
Seasons turn fast. If you spend all your time looking ahead at the calendar, you miss the quiet glory right in front of you. Take the slow road, grab the people who matter most, and don’t forget to look up.
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
