The Weight We Aren’t Meant to Carry
Most mornings don’t start at dawn for me, and I prefer it that way. By mid-morning, when the world has already run itself ragged trying to get ahead, I’m finally sitting down with a hot cup of coffee. Christy is nearby, Zippy is stretched out on the floor like an old rug, and the quiet settles in.
That silence doesn’t last long once the brain kicks into gear. The weight of the day usually hits before the mug is half empty. Bills, repairs, broken systems, the noise of everyday life—it piles up fast. If you let it, that rucksack will buckle your knees before noon.
The Daily Drop
“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens, the God of our salvation. Selah.”
— Psalm 68:19
Notice the word daily. Not annually. Not just when everything collapses and you’re stranded on the shoulder of the highway waiting for a tow.
Every single morning, we try to muscle through the load ourselves. We pack up the worry, strap it down tight, and march out the door like we’re getting paid by the pound to suffer. It’s foolish. The verse doesn’t say He gives us a blueprint to carry it alone. It says He takes the pack off our backs.
He shoulders it so we don’t have to break under it.
Setting Down the Ruck
You don’t need a committee meeting or polished phrases to hand it over. It comes down to honest, deliberate unloading.
Take a breath. Pet the dog. Let the coffee warm your hands. Look at whatever problem is staring you down today and quit acting like the universe depends on your grip strength.
He carries the weight. Let Him have it.
