Kindness: More Than Just Being Nice
The world is loud, rude, and mostly interested in its own reflection. In that chaos, kindness isn’t a suggestion—it’s a weapon. It isn’t about being polite or “nice” in that shallow, corporate-handshake kind of way. It’s a fruit of the Spirit. It’s the heart of Christ leaking out into a world that’s starving for something real.
The Root of Repentance
We often think of kindness as a reaction, but God uses it as an invitation. Romans 2:4 tells us that His kindness is intended to lead us to repentance. It’s active. It’s intentional. When we show that same grit-and-grace kindness to others, we’re breaking down walls that a hammer couldn’t touch. It disarms hostility and points people toward the truth.
Forgiveness and Compassion
You can’t have true kindness without forgiveness. They’re stitched together. Ephesians 4:32 makes it clear: be kind, compassionate, and forgive because He forgave you first. This isn’t always convenient. Usually, it’s difficult. It means caring for people when they don’t deserve it—just like we didn’t. That kind of counter-cultural move makes people stop and take notice.
Clothe Yourself in It
Colossians 3:12 says to “clothe yourselves” with kindness. This means it’s part of the daily uniform. It’s our identity. Choosing kindness in a conflict doesn’t mean you’re compromising the truth or being soft. It means you’re delivering the truth with enough grace to actually be heard.
Small acts—a word of encouragement or a simple gesture—have a ripple effect that lasts. We’re called to be ambassadors, representing something much bigger than ourselves in our everyday interactions.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” — Colossians 3:12
