Pit Stop in Clanton: Real BBQ and Roadside Peace
If you’re hauling down to Destin, there’s a spot in Clanton, Alabama, that demands a detour. We pulled into Peach Place, and it reminded me why I prefer wandering over following a spreadsheet.
We didn’t come for small portions, and they didn’t disappoint. The pulled pork was tender, staying true to that smoky Alabama soul without being drowned in unnecessary sauce. The half-chicken had that perfect char—crispy skin, juicy meat.
As for the sides, the mac and cheese was solid, but those fried green tomatoes were the real standout. Crunchy, tangy, and exactly what you want when you’re sitting on a wooden deck breathing in the humid Southern air.
You can’t stop at a place with “Peach” in the name and skip the fruit. The peach pie was warm, flaky, and hit with a massive scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s the kind of dessert that makes the long drive worth it. Simple. Honest. Delightful.
Traveling with Christy and Zippy means finding spots that respect the pace of a slow afternoon. Sitting out on that deck, watching Zippy take in the sights while we finished our coffee, provided a necessary bridge between the noise of the road and the peace of the coast.
We’ll be hitting this spot again on the way back north. Some things are too good to only experience once.
