Standing Firm in a Field of Weeds
The world is messy. Look around, and it is easy to see that good and evil are tangled up together, growing in the exact same dirt. It is enough to make you want to start ripping out the bad stuff yourself.
But that is not our job.
Take a hard look at the Parable of the Weeds in Matthew 13:24-30. In the story, an enemy plants weeds right in the middle of a farmer’s good wheat. When the servants ask if they should pull up the weeds, the farmer stops them. Why? Because pulling the weeds too early risks destroying the wheat.
Focus on the Fruit
We live in that exact same tension today—a world where truth and lies grow side by side. It is easy to get frustrated, angry, or disheartened by the garbage around us. But Christ is clear: judgment belongs to God, not to us.
Our marching orders aren’t to police the field. Our job is to keep our heads down, stay rooted, and produce fruit that reflects truth.
“Let both grow together until the harvest…” — Matthew 13:30
When the day’s noise gets loud, Christy, Zippy, and I take refuge in the quiet mornings. A hot cup of black coffee, a moment of peace, and time in the Word are what keep me grounded. It is a daily reminder to stop worrying about the weeds I cannot control and focus on growing into what God called me to be.
The Final Harvest
Evil does not get the last word. Matthew 13:41-43 promises a final sorting, a restoration where God clears the field and makes all things right.
Until that harvest comes, keep growing. Do not let the weeds choke out your purpose. Stay disciplined, keep your circle tight, and trust the Master of the harvest.
