The Heavy Pack

The Heavy Pack

You don’t realize how heavy the rucksack is until you finally set it down.

Most of us spend our days grinding through the noise, trying to outwork yesterday’s problems and bracing for tomorrow’s hits. We carry the baggage of what we should have done, what we failed to fix, and the endless mental tally of everything that needs doing. We call it discipline. Sometimes it’s just stubborn pride.

Either way, you end up hollowed out, dragging your feet, running on fumes and sheer stubbornness.

Setting Down the Weight

There’s a direct invitation on the table, cut clean of fluff:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Notice who He’s calling. It’s not the folks who have it all figured out, looking polished and pristine. It’s the tired. The worn-down. The ones who have pushed the engine into the red for far too long.

The world tells you to pull yourself up, dig deeper, and carry the load alone. Scripture says the opposite: drop the pack at the door. Real rest isn’t just an extra hour of sleep or checking out behind a screen. It’s an exchange. You hand over the burden you were never designed to carry, and you take His peace instead.

The Stillness in the Kitchen

Mid-morning rolls around. The house is finally quiet. Christy is settled in, Zippy is stretched out on the floor snoozing like it’s his full-time job, and the smell of fresh coffee cuts through the air.

In that silence, the frantic pace of the world loses its grip.

You can keep trying to shoulder the weight of your own world, or you can take Him at His word, pull up a chair, and let the soul breathe.

Drop the rucksack. The rest is real.
