“A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal…” — Proverbs 12:10
If you’ve followed Kitchen and Compass for any length of time, you know that the “Compass” doesn’t just point the way for Christy and me—it also guides our faithful co-pilot, Zippy.
Traveling with a dog adds a layer of joy (and a little bit of chaos) to every road trip. Whether we’re heading down to Florida or staying closer to home in the Appalachians, Zippy is an essential part of the crew. But as any dog owner knows, a successful trip requires a bit of “scouting” ahead of time.
My Top 3 Tips for the “Dog-Friendly” Trail:
- Know Your Destination: Not all beaches or mountain trails are created equal. We always look for parks, trails and local spots that welcome Zippy with open arms.
- The Travel Kit: Just like I won’t travel without my coffee, Zippy has his essentials. From his favorite travel bowl to his specific Simparica meds, keeping his routine steady keeps him calm on the road.
- Trusting the Guide: There’s something spiritual about the bond with a dog. They live completely in the moment, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the creation God has placed right in front of us.
In this corner of the blog, I’ll be sharing our favorite pet-friendly stops, gear reviews that actually survive a road trip, and maybe a few stories of Zippy’s adventures (and his occasional “fear of the beach” moments!).
