Finding Our Way Home to the Light

Finding Our Way Home to the Light

There is a gentle rhythm to our mornings that always seems to reset my heart. When the house is quiet, Christy is near, and our three-legged buddy Zippy is contentedly dozing after an easy morning walk, gratitude just has a way of settling in. It’s in these peaceful moments that I find myself thinking about the winding roads that brought us here—and the deeper truth that none of us arrived at peace entirely on our own.

A Gracious Extraction

In Colossians 1:13, we are reminded of an incredible spiritual relocation: we were brought out of darkness and welcomed safely into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son.

Darkness often looks like our own quiet burdens—carrying worry we were never meant to bear, feeling lost in the gray areas of life, or believing that if we just hustle a little harder, we can fix everything ourselves. We build up defenses and convince ourselves we are self-reliant travelers.

Yet grace tells a completely different story. Rescue isn’t about our effort to escape; it is about an act of love reaching directly into the shadow to lead us into the clearing. We didn’t carve out our own sanctuary. A pathway was made for us, and an open hand offered to guide us home.

Living in the New Country

Once your citizenship changes, your perspective changes with it. Walking in the light doesn’t mean the road is entirely smooth, but it means you are no longer defined by the gloom you left behind. The guilt, the old labels, and the weight of yesterday simply hold no authority over your steps today.

When the world gets loud and the journey feels heavy, take a breath and look around. Notice the people beside you, savor the simple joys of the morning, and rest in the assurance of where you truly belong.

We have been brought safely into the clearing. And walking forward in that warmth makes all the difference.
