Get Out of the Way
Most of our exhaustion doesn’t come from the work. It comes from trying to control things we were never built to carry.
Mid-morning hits, the house goes quiet, and I sit down with a hot mug of black coffee. Christy is taken care of, Zippy is curled up asleep by my feet, and for five minutes, the noise stops. That quiet has a way of showing you where your knuckles are white from gripping the wheel too tight.
We love control. We think if we just push harder, stress louder, and force the outcome, we win.
It’s an illusion.
The Hard Truth
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
— 1 Peter 5:6
Humility isn’t groveling. It isn’t pretending you’re dirt.
It’s knowing who is God and who isn’t.
Notice Peter doesn’t say you lift yourself up. He says God does. Your job is simple: get low. Take your hands off the controls. Step down from the driver’s seat and let the One with the mighty hand handle the road.
Pride wants the promotion today. Pride wants credit right now. But pride is brittle, and when you build your own platform, you have to spend every waking second defending it.
In Due Time
That phrase stings. “In due time.”
It means on His clock, not yours.
Waiting isn’t weakness; it’s discipline. It’s like sourdough. You can rush a lot of things in the kitchen, but you cannot rush the fermentation. Try to bake it before it’s ready, and you get a brick nobody can stomach. God’s timing works the same way. He finishes the work inside you before He builds the platform beneath you.
The Shift
Quit carrying what isn’t yours to fix.
Take a breath. Step under that mighty hand. Let Him handle the timing, the outcome, and the lift.
Your job today is just to walk faithfully right where your boots are planted.
