Fix Your Eyes Above the Dirt
The world is loud, messy, and constantly trying to drag your focus down into the gutter.
If you spend your days staring at the ground, all you’re ever going to see is mud, potholes, and the things trying to trip you up. It doesn’t take much to lose your bearings when every distraction is screaming for your attention.
The Upward Shift
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” — Colossians 3:1
Paul wasn’t writing theory from an ivory tower. He knew what it felt like to be beat up by circumstance. Yet the command remains dead simple: change your focal point.
You’ve been raised. Act like it.
Setting your heart on things above isn’t about floating through life with your head in the clouds. It’s about anchoring your mind to what actually lasts while your boots are on the ground. It’s choosing eternal perspective over temporary chaos.
Daily Recalibration
It starts in the quiet moments.
Before the daily grind takes its bite, sit with the Word. Let the coffee do its job, let the dust settle, and take inventory of where your loyalty lies.
Christy and I know that when life gets frantic, the easiest thing to do is react. Even our dog, Zippy, knows the difference between a house running on anxiety and one resting in peace. The fix isn’t complicated, but it requires discipline: stop obsessing over what’s directly in front of your face and look up.
Cut the Static
You can’t control the storms around you, but you can control where you anchor.
- Kill the distractions. If it pulls you away from truth, shut it off.
- Keep your hands open. Earthly problems are temporary. Treat them that way.
- Stand firm. Christ is on the throne. That hasn’t changed.
Stop fighting battles that have already been won. Set your gaze where it belongs, take a breath, and walk forward.
