The Grit of a Fresh Slate

Mornings don’t come early in my house. I don’t buy into the grind-culture hustle of waking up at 4:00 AM to conquer the world.

By mid-morning, the house settles. Christy is set, Zippy has found his warm patch of floor, and the first decent cup of coffee is finally in hand. That quiet space between the bed and the day’s demands is where perspective actually lives.

Most people carry yesterday like an overpacked ruck. Every mistake, missed mark, and lingering regret gets dragged forward into the next twenty-four hours until the weight breaks them.

That’s bad tactics. You don’t fight today’s battles with yesterday’s spent brass.


Running Out the Clock on Regret

Scripture cuts clean through the noise when the world tries to bury you under your own history:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23

Notice the word: consumed. It means burned up, wiped out, finished.

The author wasn’t sitting in an air-conditioned office when he penned that. He was watching his world collapse around him. Yet right in the dirt and smoke, he notes the mechanics of grace: it resets daily.

God doesn’t dole out a lifetime supply of patience in one lump sum. He rations it out twenty-four hours at a time. The slate wipes clean not because we earned it, but because His supply line never breaks.


Step Out Clean

Yesterday is done. It took its shots, and you survived them.

Whatever went sideways, leave it behind you. Drink the coffee. Hold your family close. Take the breath God just handed you and walk out the door knowing the mercy on your side is fresh out of the package.

Trust the supply line. It hasn’t failed yet.
