Quit Borrowing Trouble
Tomorrow is already trying to pick a fight with you, and it hasn’t even arrived yet.
Most people burn half their daylight sweating over problems that haven’t happened, bills that aren’t due yet, or scenarios they made up while staring at the ceiling at 2:00 AM. It’s an exhausting way to live, and it’s completely pointless. You can’t fix tomorrow’s flat tire today, but you sure can ruin today’s peace worrying about the nail in the road.
The Bread in Front of You
Mid-morning rolls around, the coffee is hot, and the house is quiet. Christy is settled in, Zippy is asleep on the rug, and the world outside is screaming for attention.
That silence is easy to surrender if you let your mind wander into next week. But grace doesn’t come in bulk packages. You don’t get a thirty-day supply delivered to your porch. You get enough strength to put your boots on, love your people, do your work, and handle what’s sitting right in front of your nose. Nothing more, nothing less.
Why do we insist on carrying a backpack full of rocks we aren’t even supposed to pick up yet? (Besides, what do you call a fake noodle? An impasta. See? Keep it simple. Don’t overthink it.)
The Heavy Truth
Jesus didn’t mince words about how rough the world can be. He never promised easy roads, but He did draw a hard line on where your attention belongs:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
— Matthew 6:34
Notice He didn’t pretend trouble doesn’t exist. He said today has plenty of it. That’s honest. That’s gritty reality.
Stand Your Ground Today
You’ve got today. That’s the deal on the table.
Fight the battles that are actually standing in your driveway right now. Feed the dog. Hug your spouse. Do the honest work in front of you with everything you’ve got. Let tomorrow sit in the waiting room until the sun comes up.
When it finally gets here, you’ll have the strength for it. Until then, stay where your feet are.
