We usually get this backward, tying who we are to what we do. But God always builds the person before assigning the job.
Moses spent four decades in the desert before leading anyone. David tended sheep long before wearing a crown. Calling flows out of who you are becoming, not just what you’re doing right now.

The Three-Part Fit
Instead of waiting for a lightning bolt, just look at where three simple things cross paths:
- Affinity: What actually fires you up or moves your heart?
- Ability: What are you naturally good at, or what skills have you built over time?
- Opportunity: Where is a real, practical need right in front of you?
When those three line up, things click. Affinity gives you drive, ability gets the job done, and opportunity keeps it grounded.
Simple Direction, Not a 30-Year Plan
You don’t need your whole life mapped out. You just need orientation. A basic framework sounds like this:
“God is shaping me to use [my gifts] to help [these people].”
When life gets noisy or circumstances shift, having that simple anchor keeps you from chasing every shiny distraction.
Keep a Loose Grip
Know where you’re headed, but don’t hold the steering wheel so tight your hands turn white. Take it one honest step at a time.
