The Heavy Lifting

The Heavy Lifting

You can’t manufacture patience on an empty stomach, and you sure can’t muscle your way into genuine peace when the world is rattling your cage.

I’ve tried the white-knuckle method. Gritting your teeth, pretending you’re calm, forcing a smile while the gears inside your head grind down to dust. It doesn’t work. Self-discipline is fine for getting through a tough set or fixing a busted pipe, but it makes a poor substitute for a changed heart.

The Mid-Morning Reality Check

The quiet doesn’t start until late morning around here. Christy’s got her routine down, Zippy is snoring softly on the rug by my feet, and I’ve finally sat down with a hot mug of coffee. No rush. No noise yet. Just space to breathe and face things honestly.

It’s easy to feel steady when the house is still. The test comes later, when the world demands an answer you don’t want to give. That’s usually where my own strength runs dry.

Cultivation, Not Construction

Paul laid out the blueprint pretty plainly:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

Notice the word. Fruit.

Fruit isn’t hammered together in a workshop. It isn’t forced out overnight. It grows because the branch stays hooked to the vine, taking in what it needs and letting time do the work.

Love, gentleness, self-control—they aren’t badges you earn by trying harder than the guy next to you. They’re what naturally shows up when you stop running on your own fumes and let the Holy Spirit do the heavy lifting inside you.

The Daily Posture

The world respects brute force. The Spirit asks for surrender.

Take the slow morning. Sit in the Word. Let the roots go deep, and let Him handle the harvest.
